Shreveport, LA - Woodward, OK

Full stop @ Woodward, OK  (WWR)

This was a fairly pleasant and uneventful flight.  Rarely did we have any clouds in the way, but as it got warmer we did get a bump or two.  We flew fairly close to Oklahoma City, Brig took some pictures.  We then landed at West Woodward Airport in Oklahoma.  It was in the mid-90's there and rising.  We met some friendly folks there, got fueled up and were given a courtesy car.  It was in pretty rough shape, no air conditioning, and windows that didn't go down much.  We ate at a combination Taco Bell/Kentucky Fried Chicken, then headed back to the airport.

By this time it was 100 degrees.  But at least it was dry heat.

Woodward, OK - Longmont, CO

Full stop @ Longmont, CO  (2V2)

This flight could be classified as the ol' "hot and sloppy".  It was hot alright, even up at 8,500 and 10,500, which I only went up to to beat some of the heat.  It was steady light to moderate chop pretty much the whole way.  Crossing into Colorado near Lamar, I could see on my radar storms building near Denver.  At that point I made the decision to come in from the north of Denver Intl and over Platteville, instead of south over Centennial Airport.  I dropped down to 6,500 to

stay below Denvers Class B Airspace, but still had to go even further north to avoid the storms that were building.  Finally, north of Platteville I saw enough of a gap and could see Longmont and headed for it.  About 15 miles out I could see a new storm forming over Boulder and heading towards Longmont.  There was another airplane in the pattern in Longmont and I asked him how it was, he said it wasn't too bad, just starting to sprinkle, but the storm was definitely on its way

I transmitted I was going to make a straight-in, he said that was probably a good idea, and that there was nobody else in the pattern or the area.  We flew right over our house, it was still standing, that was a good sign.  We made a fast straight-in and made our last landing of the trip.  On rollout, Brig and the kids cheered as we did it, made the trip of a lifetime and were finally home.  Before cutting the engine the kids asked, "so when do we go to Alaska?"

Almost home Sprinkles from one last thunderstorm on final

Finally home!  Let's do it again.
